Purpose of book is to provide communications-satellite payload engineers as well as satellite system developers, satellite-procurement personnel, and satellite service providers all the knowledge they need about the payload and how the payload fits in to the end-to-end communications system.  The book facilitates cross-over work: e.g. the payload engineer will know enough to analyze the effect of a specification non-compliance on end-to-end system performance, and the system developer will understand the time-varying payload performance.
